Introducing Molly Ann Burns!

Our little Molly finally decided to join us on Wednesday at 12:49pm weighing in at 7 lbs 11oz and 19 inches long.  She must have wanted more excitement than we had planned on because at the last minute she decided to flip sideways and as a result the cord prolapsed and she tried to come out hand first.  That doesn’t work very well so we were rushed to an emergency c-section.

Just before all of that excitement I had an epidural which turned out to be difficult to get in and ended up requiring two doctors before they finally got it.  As a result, one of the attempts went a little too far and I developed a spinal headache on Wednesday evening.  We tried to treat it with medication and I went home on Friday afternoon only to return to the hospital that night about 10:00.  The next morning they did a blood patch which basically means they do virtually the same procedure as an epidural only instead of giving you medication they inject some of your own blood into the hole which works like a can of fix-a-flat and keeps the spinal fluid from leaking out (this is what causes the headache.)  I’m sure Uncle Matt can explain it better than I can—I was on a lot of drugs when they explained it to me!

Anyway, we’re home now, I can pick my head up off the pillow without crying and Molly is just the sweetest baby you’ll ever meet.  We thought Samuel was easy going but this girl has him beat, even giving us 4-5 hour stretches at night already.

I’m sure I’ll have more to tell later but for now I’ll leave you with some pictures of her first 5 days.

Meeting big brother.

This is the closest we could get of their little sister/big brother shirts.  We’ll have to try again later.  Samuel got Molly some pacifiers and pacifier clips and she got him an apron to help Mommy in the kitchen.

First going home outfit.  By the time we actually got to go home this one was soiled but at least we got a picture.

This was just before we put her in the car seat to leave the hospital the first time.  I was waiting until the very last minute to sit up.

Here’s the tutu Grammy made.

We’ll have to keep trying for a family picture.  Poor Molly, you can’t even see her face.

This morning Samuel wanted Molly to watch cartoons with him.  So far he is great with her. He got to hold her in our bed this when he got up today which he loved and he has a “Molly voice” where he talks sweetly to her and pats her tummy.  He also likes to help me up and down the stairs.  This morning we even figured out how I can feed Molly and we can still play army men and trucks on the couch.  Adjusting to life with two!
